When I paint a teacher, I listen to their speeches, stories about their lives, their experiences. I want to capture that energy and mix it with the energy of the present moment; the light of the day, the sugar in my coffee, my breath as I make a mark on the canvas. One of my students said that I paint portraits of the soul. I like that.
